| First lady stresses for education of girl child | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 14: The First Lady, Usha Vohra today called upon the Non Governmental Organizations to contribute in promoting girl education to eradicate the menace of illiteracy from the society. Mrs Vohra was addressing students and staff at a function organized at women’s college Parade ground by Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Welfare Society in connection with Children’s day, celebrated across the country to commemorate Birth Anniversary of first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Describing illiteracy as the root cause of all evils, Mrs Vohra said a concerted move towards educating girl could show the way for establishing a literate society because educating a woman means educating a family. She said the Non Governmental Organizations can play an effective role in spreading education among the woman folk. She said those already associated with the prestigious job of spreading education among poor should lay more stress on the girl education. Referring to the cultural programme presented by the children enrolled with the welfare society, the first lady said the extraordinary talent exhibited by them bears the testimony about its commitment towards the cause. Earlier, the president of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Welfare Society, Prof Ved Kumari Ghai, in her welcome address, briefed the gathering about the activities of the society. She said besides managing academic education, the society also arranges vocational trainings in various traits for the in-home students. |
