| ‘Land resources conservation week begins’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 14: Principal Secretary to Agriculture Development Department Mrs. Sonali Kumar has underscored the need for optimal utilization of natural resources including soil and water saying that” our State has to strive hard for conserving the depleting water resources by using modern and simple methods of harvesting”. Mrs. Kumar was addressing a gathering of scientists and farmers at a workshop on “Soil and Water Conservation for climate change adaptation” as a part of Land Resources Conservation Week at Krishi Bhavan here today. She said that the State of J&K being largely hilly has tremendous resources of water and soil which need to be utilized optimally and stressed that scientists have an important role to play to apprise the farmer community about the do’s and don’ts of latest know-how for conserving the water and soil resources and increasing the productivity in a multifold manner. She said that Agriculture Department should be in constant touch with the farmers so that they are made aware about the right use of land and the fertilizers for increasing the productivity in the state. In her welcome address, the Director Agriculture Jammu Mrs.Vinod Bala enlisted the factors responsible for degradation of soil and water resources in the state. She said that increased pollution of cities and faulty town planning has resulted in haphazard construction planning adding that the farmers at many places have started selling their fertile land for construction purposes, the trend which needs to be stopped for conserving the agriculture land of the State. |
