Col Mahan seeks robust healthcare facilities, adequate staff in Kathua District | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Dec 30: DDC Chairman, Kathua, Col Mahan Singh (Retd) on Thursday sought robust healthcare edifice and adequate staff in the medicare institutions across the district. In a statement issued to media persons, Col Mahan asserted that the prevailing healthcare edifice in the district Kathua is not upto the mark as there is acute staff dearth in almost all the healthcare facilities besides people have to move to GMC Kathua / Jammu for even basic requirements due to lack of healthcare infrastructure as well. Col Mahan said that the district area-wise and terrain-wise is so vast that the available healthcare edifice is not sufficient to cater to the needs of the people especially those residing in the far off hamlets comprising more than 95 per cent of the total population. Talking more specifically, he pointed out that hilly terrains are more prone to people getting poor healthcare facilities as Sub-District Hospitals in Billawar, Basohli and Bani possess bare minimum facilities and inadequate staff including specialists. "This is a precarious situation and needs immediate focus of the government because providing state of the art medicare facilities is the duty of the government", Col Mahan said, adding that even the new buildings constructed to run PHCs are still buildings only since the staff crunch and the lack of edifice has marred the purpose behind constructed the same. |
