| Governor reviews situation in Kishtwar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 14: Governor NN Vohra today took a security and poll preparedness review in the twin hilly districts of Kishtwar and Doda and stressed upon officials the need for a close synergy. An official spokesman said that continuing with his planned schedule of visiting every district in the Jammu region to review the security situation in run up to the ensuing Assembly Elections, Governor N N Vohra, today visited Kishtwar, Doda and Bhaderwah and held meetings with the senior officers. The Governor stressed the need for close synergy and effective real time coordination between the various Security Forces while reviewing the functioning of the security apparatus with the senior Civil, Police, Central Police and the Army officers. Besides the need to maintain normalcy, and effectively preventing any militant activity, he emphasized the need for ensuring adequate logistical arrangements particularly in regard to accommodation, transport, communication, food supplies, medical and other services for the smooth conduct of the polls. The respective Deputy Commissioners and the District Superintendents of Police gave their assessment of the security situation to the Governor. Vohra utilized his visits to these districts to also seek first hand briefings about the adequate availability of various essential commodities and other utility services in these remote and difficult areas and directed the District Officers to take all possible steps for mitigating the problems of the people, particularly during the ensuing winter months. At Bhaderwah, the Governor also visited the extended campus of the University of Jammu and went round various departments. He interacted with the faculty members and the students. The Governor was accompanied by his Advisor, Dr Sudhir S Bloeria, Principal Secretary, Mr B B Vyas and Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Mr Sudhanshu Pandey. Meanwhile, electioneering is picking up in the four Assembly constituencies of the two hilly districts – Kishtwar, Inderwal, Doda and Bhaderwah- notwithstanding the chilly climatic conditions. In a bid to reach out their voters, the contestants and the political parties are using all modes of transport, besides door-to-door canvassing. District Election Officer, Kishtwar, Mr Sudershan Sharma, said that 203 polling stations would be established for an electorate of 1,42,141 in the district comprising Inderwal and Kishtwar constituencies. In the Baderwah and Doda constituencies of the Doda district, 234 polling stations would be set for 1,64,609 voters, according to the District Election Officer, Syed Sharief-ud-Din. |
