Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 30: Government Degree College, Chenani organized a webinar regarding cyber awareness to celebrate the initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs for implementing a scheme of Indian cybercrime coordination centre (I4C) to deal with cybercrime in a coordinated and comprehensive manner in order to create awareness among students, teachers, parents and the community. Wahid Farooq, Lecturer, Computer Sciences and Lakshya Kumar, Lecturer, Physics of the College organized the programme in which Wahid reflected that thousands of people are victims of cyber crime. The widespread use of mobile devices that enables Internet access increases the exposure of both individuals and organizations to cybercrime. The webinar addressed the issue of strategic prevention of cybercrime with the key focus on the measures to prevent cybercrime related to children and students. The increasing integration of web technologies in everyday life, along with the popularity of social networks and the development of mobile technology, contribute to the creation of an optimal environment for various types of cybercrime and the dissemination of illegal Internet content. He explained in detail the cyber-crime related incidents, cyber threats/activities viz Identity theft, Credit card fraud, data stealing, Cyber Stalking, spreading pornography, etc. He further said that organizing such awareness programmes in India can provide an opportunity to educate the community about preventive measures we can adopt and to where and how to report if we or someone in our surrounding is a victim.Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College congratulated the organizing team for the event and exhorted that the crimes under the purview of Cyber-crime are a new class of criminalities which are increasing day by day due to extensive use of internet these days and that it is necessary to create awareness about such acts which can prove detrimental to one’s security.
