| It is BSP's turn to form Government | | | NIRBHAY JAMMUAL JAMMU, Nov 14: Leaders belonging to the Congress, the National Conference and the PDP beware of the BSP that has announced to form the Government on its own in Jammu and Kashmir. It is going to field party candidates,a lare number of them being women, from all the 87 constituencies in the state. It has also announced to repeat the UP experiment by giving party mandate to people belonging to the upper castes. So dear leaders from the Congress, the National Conference and the PDP you need not to struggle hard for securing majority in the Assembly which alone can help them in the formation of the Government.Has the situation emerged which calls for rebels from the Congress, the PDP and the National Conference to join the BSP so that they too could share power directly or indirectly? When this question was posed to some congressmen and leaders of the National Conference and the PDP they simply laughed saying "it is better for the BSP to ensure stability for the party, which has been rocked by splits in recent weeks, before it thinks of forming the Government. They do say that the BSP could have emerged as a force to reckon with had it repeated the UP experiment with sincerity. It has not because so far no men of consequences belonging to the upper castes barring a handful of non-Dalits have joined the party. As such thinking or hoping of winning absolute majority in the Assembly could be seen as a distant dream for the BSP. Its rival faction, the National Bahujan Party, has decided to contest 47 seats. This way the traditional voters of the undivided BSP would get split thereby limiting the chances for the BSP for the formation of the Government. The leaders of the three mainstream political parties are not sure of touching the tape and in such circumstances it could be a wishful thinking on the part of the BSP to form the Government.Yes,the BSP could be lucky enough if it is able to win between five and 10 seats.Hitherto it has not fared well in the elections and in the previous election it could win one seat and the winner later ditched the BSP by joining the PDP.This time he is the PDP candidate from Vijaypur. It is the right of the BSP to field party candidates in all the constituencies. There is no constitutional bar for it.But supporters of the BSP wish their leaders to concentrate on a score of seats so that the party was able to do better than what it has done in the previous elections.Well, the BSP could create history if it gives party mandate to about a dozen women candidates because other parties have been miser in giving tickets to the fair sex. Another party that is seen trying to fritter away its resources is the Samajwadi Party. It has decided to contest 51 seats. The number 51 is number of mystery. Why not either 50 or 40 or 60 or 87? Why 51 ?Only Sheikh Abdul Rehman can answer.Possibly he had in mind to contest less than 40 seats but did not want to show the Samajwadi party a weakling when compared to the BJP or the Panthers Party.Or he may have got ticket seekers for only 51 constituencies. He seems to be so sure of success that he has decided not to forge any alliance with any political party.Yes,he is ready to have alliance with like-minded independent candidates.Who could be these like-minded candidates ?Those who worship Mulayam Singh Yadav or Amar Singh but not ready to join their party because nobody can predict whether Yadav and Singh are with the Congress or the BJP or the BSP.Clever voters have started promising support to every party. What actually is on their mind nobody knows. |
