Srinagar, Nov 15- Jammu and Kashmir police today rescued more than 150 people, including Bakarwals and labourers, who were caught in heavy snowfall in south Kashmir district of Shopian.
Superintendent of Police, Shopian, Javid Ahmad said that a message was received on Friday afternoon that several bakarwals with their livestock and labourers were stranded in some remote and far flung areas which experienced heavy snowfall.
He said a number of police rescue teams were rushed to different directions to save the stranded people at Dobjan, Aliabad and other affected areas, particularly on Mughal road.
Javid Ahmad said police personnel, risking their lives, rescued more than 50 people, including labourers working on the Mughal road from Dobjan, about 50 km from Shopian.
The labourers were from Rajouri, Poonch and Doda district, he said adding there was no Bihari labourer among the stranded.
He said similarly, more than 100 others, including Bakarwals and their 250 goats; horses and sheep, were rescued from the affected areas. The SP said majority of them were brought to Shopian, where they were provided medical and other aid.
"We have rescued all stranded people and livestock", he said.
