| Farooq asks Gujjars, Paharis to defeat caste politics | | | Early Times Report Surankote/Mendhar, November 15, 2008: Asking Gujjar and Pahari communities to unite for the overall development of the state and expose the elements responsible for creating a wedge between them, former chief minister and patron National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah has said that his party is committed to protect the rights of the two communities. Addressing two separate public meetings at Surankote and Mendhar in support of party's candidates Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari and Javed Rana, Dr. Abdullah said that the two communities were being exploited by some vested interests who have a habit of playing vote bank politics for petty gains. He urged both the communities not to fall in the trap of 'divisive forces' which want to get political mileage out of the issue and be united and fight those nefarious moves of the vested interests tooth and nail and uphold the traditional brotherhood. "We believe in equitable development of all the three regions, community and caste", he said adding; National Conference has always stood for secular values and will remain committed for socio-economic and political development of all the sections of the society and said that "my party shall fight for the cause of Pahari and Gujjars and will ensure that the interest of both the sections are protected". Dr. Abdullah said both India and Pakistan should work for creating an atmosphere of understanding and confidence among each other, so both the countries and the state can flourish. He said the coalition government during their six year rule derailed the whole administrative setup which was put on rails by the National Conference government. The coalition partners brought "corruption", "unemployment" and "no development", he said adding that despite huge flow of funds from the Government of India, the coalition partners were not able to utilize the same on ground. Dr. Abdullah said my party has conceived an agenda for governance and after coming to power will channelise things in right perspective. He said National Conference will ensure that projects as per the requirement and feasibility of the area shall be taken up and completed. Dr Abdullah said "the first priority of the National Conference will be to take youth of the state out of hopelessness and despair by redressing the unemployment problem and for that he said my party will come out with a special package for employment of the youth and shall open new avenues for the young unemployed and ensure that in each household of the state there is atleast one earning hand who can sustain the family and shoulder its responsibilities. He said the party will frame a special policy for recruitment of youth in the police department by sending team of senior officers to remote areas and the qualification bar for appointment of Constables in Police department shall be middle pass. Moreover the qualification bar for recruitment to Class IV category shall also be middle pass and not matric as imposed by the erstwhile regime. He also promised that National Conference if voted to power will provide old age pension to senior citizens in the state on the pattern of European countries and will also enhance the amount of old age and handicapped pension. "I promise minimum curtailment of electricity and people friendly power tariff. Besides, NC government would focus on providing clean drinking water and better road connectivity to all villages", he said.
