Kashmir's first woman journalist dies at 75

Srinagar: Taj Begum Renzu, Kashmir’s first woman journalist and prominent literary personality, died yesterday. She was 75.

Wife of first Speaker of Constituent Assembly Ghulam Rasool Renzu, Taj Begum, was also the president of the women’s wing of National Conference before switching over to the Congress.

She was the first woman journalist in Kashmir who started a newspaper in Kashmiri, Alao.

She was also well-known as a short story writer in Kashmiri.
Her dynamic social services particularly in helping the handicapped, destitute and the people in need have earned praise from many presidents and prime ministers of India.

Taj Begum was closely associated with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during her young days.
