| Be neutral to all: Pandey tells officials | | | Jammu, November 15- Reminding the officers about sanctity of holding credible elections in a democratic set up, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey stressed for conducting polls in a free, fair and transparent atmosphere, adding elections constitute vital bedrock of Indian political system. Addressing a joint review meeting of police and civil officers here today he called for observing highest standard of neutrality and impartiality. "All the officers from District Election Officer down to polling officials must work as an institution in perfect team spirit for smooth and transparent conduct of polls", he said. Pandey underlined the importance of working in close synergy through efficient communication network with one another for successful conduct of electoral exercise in the district. It was imperative for successful conduct of electoral exercise in the district. It was imperative to work in tandem for the accomplishment of assigned duties, he added. The Divisional Commissioner stressed on testing communication plan well before the polling begins at every polling booth. He said Presiding Officer must be in constant contact with sectoral and zonal magistrates even in inaccessible and remote places. Pandey also directed for allowing media to operate freely to ensure transparency in conduct of electoral exercise. He said every Presiding Officer is duty bound to facilitate infirm and handicapped voters to cast their votes. For the purpose such voter can take assistance of two polling agents while exercising his franchise. Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Mr. K. Rajindera stressed upon the police and para military officers to ensure safe and secure atmosphere for conduct of polls everywhere in the district by establishing effective coordination among one another. He asked them to hold frequent meetings with each other and interact with people for ensuring foolproof security. The IGP said that every polling station will be manned by CRPF while local police will be deployed outside the polling compounds, cautioning that in no way should local police enter the polling premises or interfere with proceeding of polling. He asked the officers to ensure that security forces reach every polling booth well in advance so that polling booths and their compounds are properly sanitized. He said 97 companies of para military forces will be deployed in Rajouri district for conducting safe, smooth and secure polls on November 23. Among others, Observer for Darhal and district Co-ordinator Hari Ramula, District Election Officer, Sheikh Rafiq Ahmed, DIG, Rajouri-Poonch range, SSP and senior civil, police and CRPF officers were present in the meeting.
