| Governor reviews security situation, poll arrangements in Badgam | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT BADGAM, Nov 16: The State Administration has made all required arrangements in connection with the smooth conduct of polls during the Phase I, in a secured environment, in each of the regions in the State. At a high level meeting in Srinagar today, the Governor was informed that all the security-related and the logistical arrangements for the polls had been made, despite the inclement weather conditions due to the early snowfall in the Valley. Governor Mr N N Vohra, has been personally visiting each of the districts to review the security situation relating to the ensuing polls. With his visit to Badgam this morning, Mr Vohra has completed his review arrangment tours to nine of the ten districts in the Kashmir Division. Earlier, he has also visited Leh, Kargil and Poonch districts for on-the-spot-reviews. At Badgam, the Governor reviewed the overall security situation, obtaining in the district, and also took stock of the restoration of various utility services in the wake of the recent snow-fall. Mr Vohra held separate meetings with the District Officers and the officers of the Civil Administration, Police, Central Police and the Army to review the development issues and the security situation respectively in the district.. The Governor directed the District Administration for ensuring all logistical arrangements during the polls, foolproof communication network, adequate medicare facilities besides the availability of rations, POL etc. District Development Commissioner, Mr Mohammed Rafi, briefed the Governor about various measures taken up in the district for giving a fillip to the developmental tempo, creating a conducive security environment and meeting the situation arising in the wake of the snowfall. He also dwelt on the peripherial development of the famous shrine of Alamdar-e-Kashmir Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani and informed that Rs 10 crore have so far been spent on the Khankah. Mr Vohra directed that the work on the approach road leading to the shrine and upgradation of the drinking water facilities should be expedited, to complete these important scheme on a time-bound basis. The District Superintendent of Police, Mr Aftab A Kakroo, briefed the Governor about the overall security scenario. Meanwhile, the electioneering is gaining momentum all over the district, with various political parties and the contestants having organized over 50 rallies. So far, 80 nomination papers have been drawn by the political candidates. The five constituencies- Chadoora, Budgam, Beerwah, Khansahib and Chrar-e-Sharief – are going to polls on December 7, in the IV Phase. The District Election Officer said that 498 polling stations would be set up for 3,83,873 voters, which include 2969 migrant voters. For facilitating the migrant voters to exercise their democratic right, 14 polling stations have been planned in Udhampur, Jammu and New Delhi. Mr Rafi said that the Election related training has been imparted to 4240 employees of the district so far. Of these 2990 employees would be detailed on the poll duty across the district, following the procedures laid down by the Election Commission of India. |
