| Omar among 81 in fray for second phase | | Issue of prestige in Ganderbal, tough contest in Rajouri, Darhal | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 16: As many as, 81 candidates are in the fray in the second phase of J&K Assembly Elections 2008 for six constituencies of Kangan, Ganderbal, Nowshera, Darhal, Rajouri and Kalakote going to polls on November 23, 2008. The total number of electors registered to exercise franchise in the second phase is 4,93,878. This includes 2,926 service voters. The number of male and female voters is 2,56,462 and 2,37,416 respectively. The total number of polling stations in the six constituencies is 530. In the newly created Ganderbal district, 1,37,560 electors in the two constituencies of 16-Kangan and 17-Ganderbal are exercising right to vote on November 23. Of these, 71,378 are male and 66,182 female voters. There are 22 candidates contesting from these constituencies in 2008 elections. The number of service voters is 65 and the total number of polling stations 142 as compared to 127 in 2002 elections. The total electors registered from the Rajouri district for 2008 Elections is 3,56,318 including 2861 service voters. Of these, male are 1,85,084 and 1,71,234 female voters. The number of polling stations is 388 as against 377 set up in 2002 elections. 16-Kangan: This constituency has 59,933 registered voters for 2008 J&K Assembly elections including 54 service voters. The number of male voters is 31,386 and female voters are 28,547. The number of polling station is 63 as compared to 58 in 2002. As many as 10 candidates are contesting from this constituency for 2008 Elections. Ganderbal: The total registered voters for 2008 from this constituency is 77,627 including 11 service electors. Of these, 39,992 are male and 37,635 are female voters. The number of polling stations is 79 as against 69 in 2002 elections. The four constituencies of Nowshera, Darhal, Rajouri and Kalakote of Rajouri district are going to polls in the IInd phase of J&K Assembly Elections 2008 on November 23. Nowhsera: This Assembly segment has 85,723 registered voters including 1066 service electors. The male voters are 44,472 and female 41,251 voters. As many as 11 candidates are in the fray from this constituency for 2008 J&K Assembly, these are Mr. Arshed Mehmood (PDP), Mr. Radhay Sham Sharma (NC), Mr. Romesh Chander Sharma (INC), Mr. Surinder Kumar (BSP), Mr. Samsher Singh (NPP), Mr. Vishwinder Dev (BJP), Mr. Rajinder (LJP), Mr. Som Raj (SP), Mr. Mohammad Zaman (JKDPN,) Mr. Ajeet Singh (Independent) and Mr. Lok Nath (Independent). Darhal: This Assembly segment has 88,532 registered voters for 2008 Elections which include 346 service electors. The number of male voters is 45,797 and 42,735 female voters. The number if polling station is 95 as compared to 84 in 2002 elections. Mohammad Shabir (ANC), Mr. Allah Dad (Independent), Mr. Abdul Hamid (Independent), Mr. Masood Ahmad Choudhary (independent) and Mr. Mohammad Iqbal (Independent) are contesting from this constituency. Rajouri: The total number of registered electors from this constituency is 1,06,125 which include 854 service voters. Male voters are 54,991 and female 51134. The number of polling stations is 124 as compared to 100 in 2002 elections. There are 23 candidates contesting from this constituency in the 2008 Assembly elections. Kalakote: There are 75,938 registered voters in the constituency for 2008 elections which include 595 service electors. The number of male voters is 39,824 and 36,114 are female voters. The total number of polling stations is 83 as compared to 73 in 2008 elections.
