| State Football Championship in Jammu next month: Thakur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 16: After constitution of the new central body on November eight at Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) has decided to hold State Football Championship next month in Jammu. Paying first visit to the Winter Capital after his `unopposed’ re-election to the post, the JKFA president, Zamir Ahmed Thakur stressed on promotion of football in Jammu on the pattern of that of in Kashmir. Without naming any body, Thakur alleged that some individuals have destroyed football in Jammu during the last four years by doing nothing for the promotion of the game. Interacting with the media persons here this afternoon, Thakur said, “Forget about what happened in the past. Now, you will find a new Jammu wing team in place very soon and a lot of football activities in near future.” To start with, the JKFA president disclosed that the Association has received a request letter from All J&K Christian Welfare Association for holding Christian Gold Cup in Jammu. “Soon after the Christian Gold Cup, State Football Championship will be organized in Jammu by the JKFA,” informed Thakur. He clarified that the Central body of the JKFA never opposed the idea of Sports Authority of India (SAI) to start training centers in the state, else, welcomed the initiative. “If the SAI programme has been opposed by any body in Jammu, it was against the policy of the JKFA. We want promotion of football and anybody extending help in this regard, we will welcome,” maintained the JKFA president. Making it a point, head of the state football told SAN that: “A disciplinary committee would be constituted under the chairmanship of vice-president, Dr Nirmolak Singh to find out truth in the large scale irregularities (financial and otherwise) committed by the Jammu wing of the Association during the last four years.” To promote activities among the new affiliated clubs, the JKFA gave away sports material to two such clubs—Pallanwala Football Club and Nagrota Football Club. Among others who spoke were JKFA treasurer, R K Kohli, vice-president, Dr Nirmolak Singh and spokeman, Surinder Singh Bunty. It is pertinent to mention here that the JKFA in its elections held at Srinagar on November eight, re-elected Zamir Thakur as president and R K Kohli as treasurer unopposed. Former general secretary, S A Hamid was unanimously elected to the post. |
