| Hari Om in Congress….can there still be a bigger change of heart | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 17: No bigger show of ‘change of heart’ could have been seen in politics than one the Congress today presented from its stage. BJP ideologue, its erstwhile spokesman and vice president of J&K unit Hari Om today joined Congress. PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz said that party welcomes a patriotic person like Hari Om who reciprocated by saying, “Congress is the only party capable of protesting integrity of Jammu and Kashmir with India”. The media were taken aback to spot Hari Om’s presence in the press conference being addressed by Congress leaders Soz, Prithvi Raj Chavan and Ghulam Nabi Azad. Towards the end of press conference, in connection with release of manifesto, Soz said, “before ending I have good news for you”. Before he could finish the statement, senior Congress leader and MLC Rajinder Singh Chib escorted Hari Om to dais where Congress leaders were sitting. A chair had already been kept vacant. A teacher of history, Hari Om, it may be mentioned here, has long been an aggressive face of BJP ideology in Jammu even before he actively joined the party. Years before joining BJP, he was closely associated with top party leaders including Jagmohan and Arun Jaitley and the NDA government had out him for sometime with National Council for Historical Research as Hari Om was among those historians in the country who saw history with BJP’s angle. He quit BJP on October 30 when many party men fell out with leadership on issue of ticket distribution. On joining Congress, he clarified that he never wanted to contest anywhere. Interestingly, this is the only clarification Hari Om sought to put on record as he said in a dignified manner that he has nothing to say about his former colleagues in BJP. |
