| SDP clears two more candidates | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 17: Socialistic Democratic Party Parliamentary Board today approved the candidature of two more people for the ensuing elections to the state Assembly. Those cleared include a former veteran Congress leader from Pulwama Mir Ghulam Nabi Patel, who will contest elections from Rajpora Assembly Constituency. Patel had left Congress party just two days ago and joined SDP. Dr Manjeet Singh, ex Joint Director, who joined SDP two weeks ago will be the party nominee from Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency in Jammu division Announcing the names of these two veterans, SDP president Dr Darakhshan Andrabi said that the party cadres feel strengthened by the inclusion of these strong public figures into the party. Later, SDP president addressing workers’meeting at Party Central office here today expressed her deep concern over the imposition of undeclared curfews in the valley, paralyzing life. She said that when politicians, the contesting candidates and the common people are forced to remain indoors, how one could even think of proper electioneering. She said that the recent heavy snowfall and the severe cold wave have added to the miseries and we cannot have a good percentage of voter turn out. She also expressed her deep concerns over the partial behavior of the police authorities in providing security to the party leadership and the party’s contesting candidates. Dr Darakhshan said that she is still convinced that it was not the proper time for elections in the state and appealed to the Election Commission to postpone elections for other phases. However, she reiterated her party stand to contest the elections if still imposed on us. Dr Darakhshan said that she wants to see change at the gross root level and that is why she hates and opposes the decisions that are imposed sidelining the ground situation. Meanwhile SDP contesting candidate from Shopion Dr Malik Imtiaz Ahmad today visited the Kandi areas of the constituency and the snow-affected orchards. He has made an appeal to the state government to access the destruction and provide suitable relief to the sufferers. |
