EARLY TIMES REPORT
NIRU( TULAIL), Nov 17:- The public enthusiasm in this far flung village near the line of control on the polling today was worth watching. People in large numbers had come to exercise their franchise. Some voters had footed a distance of five to seven kilometers to come to the polling station to elect their representative for the Gurez Assembly constituency.
Situated at an altitude of about 7000 feet, the 16- Niru polling station witnessed a heavy rush of voters right from early morning despite severe cold due to the recent snow fall in the area. Women voters attired in traditional dress had come to vote and some of them were even carrying babies. The first time voters were too eager to exercise the right of franchise and jostled with each other to get the chance of first. The polling station which had a electorate of 818 including 437 male and 381 female voters witnessed a poll of 184 till 12 noon.
Similarly, in the picturesque Gurez valley the public response was over- whelming and long queues of voters were seen outside the polling stations. At 7- Dawar polling station, 336 votes out of the total 1181 were polled during the first 4 hours of polling. The voting was going on at a brisk pace.
