| Preparations afoot for National Volleyball Meet | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 17: With `central office’ already in place at MA Stadium, the Volleyball Association of J&K (VAJK) is making all out efforts to get ready for the 31st Sub-junior National Volleyball (boys and girls) Championships scheduled to be held at MA Stadium, here from November 27. To raise quality infrastructure, the ground staff of J&K State Sports Council is putting in best of their efforts to get the courts ready ahead of the competitions. “The entire ground staff at the MA Stadium has been working round the clock to get the four courts ready for the competitions. Hopefully, the courts would be ready by November 20, five days ahead of the competition,” Manager MA Stadium, Rajan Sharma told SAN. In all, 26 teams in boys section and 23 teams in girls’ category are expected to take part in the week-long event of national repute on league-cum-knock out basis. Divided into four different pools, host, J&K boys’ team have been placed in group-C with Haryana, Kerela, Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttaranchal and Tripura being the other contesting sides in the league round. In girls section, J&K is placed in pool-D with Kerela, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Manipur and Madhya Pradesh. As per the already drawn fixtures by the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) the boys defending champions, Tamil Nadu has been placed in group-A with Manipur, Chandigarh, Orissa, Chhatisgarh and Assam being the other sides. Beginning with league round on November 27, competitions for the knock-out stages of quarterfinals and semi-finals shall take place on December second in both boys and girls sections. The hard-line matches for the bronze medal shall take place on December three morning, followed by the finals and valedictory function in the afternoon. |
