Even after 70-years of Independence, Cheroot village has no proper road connectivity

Early Times Report

Doda, Jan 14: A video about 60-year old woman being carried on a cot from Cheroot village in Doda district to the Government Medical College Doda has gone viral on the social media.
According to the residents, whenever it snows the 30-km road from Doda town to Cheroot village becomes un-motorable. “Its a kacha road and turns into a muddle as soon as it rains or snows. Carrying patients to the hospital on foot is a routine for us.
The tenders for this road were issued long back, but this road was never completed. Ambulances cannot reach us when the weather turns inclement.
Things become difficult when someone falls sick in the dead of the night. Many people die on the way to the hospital,” said a local.
He said, “Is this the development the government keeps trumpeting about and the Roads and Building Department keeps on patting its back for.”
Another resident said, “We come to know about two-lane and four lane roads once we step out of the Doda town and reach Jammu or Srinagar. Far-flung areas are without proper road connectivity despite the country celebrating 75-years of independence.”
