Notification issued for fifth phase
Polling in Kathua, Shopian, Pulwama on Dec 13

JAMMU, Nov 17: Notification has been issued for 11 assembly constituencies –highest number in any single phase so far –to go to polls in fifth phase of the ongoing assembly elections. These constituencies are spread over the districts of Pulwama, Shopian and Kathua and will go to polls on December 13.
While November 24 will be the last date for making nominations, scrutiny of nomination papers will take place the next day on November 25. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures has been fixed as November 27. Polling in these 11 Assembly constituencies will take place on December 13.
A total of 8,38,953 registered electorate, which includes 4,37,120 male and 4,01,833 female voters, is expected to exercise franchise across these 11 constituencies which are Tral, Pampore, Pulwama and Rajpora in Pulwama district, Wachi and Shopian in Shopian district and Bani, Basohli, Kathua, Billawar and Hiranagar in Kathua district. The total electorate that votes in fifth phase also includes 3,772 service electors.
As many as 1,089 polling stations are being set up across these 11 constituencies for the fifth phase of polls to facilitate voters. Of these, 541 are in Kathua, 373 in Pulwama and 175 in Shopian district.
In saffron-rich Pulwama district, 373 polling stations will be established for 2,93,127 electors out of which 1,51,769 are male and 1,41,358 female. Around 168 service voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the district. In terms of registered electorate, Rajpora constituency leads with 79,149 which includes 41,056 male and 38,093 female voters, followed by Tral which has 74,066 voters, which includes 38,700 male and 35,366 female voters. In Pulwama constituency, 71,008 registered voters have the right to exercise franchise while as Pampore constituency has 68,904 electors.
With respect to service electors in the district, out of the total of 168, 122 are registered with Tral constituency while as 31 will vote from Rajpora constituency. Pulwama and Pampore constituencies have 9 and 6 service electors respectively.
Of the 373 polling booths set up in the district, 101 will be established in Rajpora while as 96 will be installed in Tral constituency. Pulwama constituency will have 90 polling stations while as Pampore constituency 86 in the coming elections.
In the adjoining Shopian district, a total of 1,39,495 registered voters (including 20 service voters) are expected to exercise their franchise in two Assembly constituencies of Wachi and Shopian. Of these 72,316 are male and 67,179 are female. Among the two, Shopian is the bigger constituency in terms of registered electorate with 71,092 which includes 37,044 male and 34,048 female voters. In Wachi, out of the total electorate of 68,403, 35,272 are male and 33,131 are female voters.
Of the 175 polling booths being established in district, 91 will be set up in Shopian and 84 in Wachi constituency respectively.
In Kathua district that falls in Jammu division, 541 polling booths are being installed for 4,06,331 registered electorate that includes 2,13,035 male and 1,93,296 female voters. The total electorate includes 3,584 service voters. Kathua constituency is the largest in terms of registered voters with 1,11,546, which includes 59,217 male and 52,329 female voters, closely followed by the reserved Hiranagar constituency which has 1,01,057 registered electors. Of these, 52,250 are male and 48,807 female voters. Hiranagar, however, has the highest number of 1,588 service voters registered in the district.
Bani is the smallest constituency in Kathua district in terms of voters with only 37,204 registered voters that includes 19,360 male and 17,844 female voters. In the remaining two constituencies of Kathua district, Billawar has 88,601 registered voters followed by Basohli which has 67,923 electors.
Out of the total of 3,584 service electors in the district, Hiranagar (SC) has 1,588, Kathua 1,004, Basohli 532, Billawar 453 and Bani 7 voters. Of the 541 polling stations that will be set up in district, Billawar constituency will have 132, Kathua 122, Basohli 112, Hiranagar (SC) 106 and Bani 69.
