| 4 ultras killed on poll eve | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 17: On the poll day, four militants were killed as Army foiled an attempt by a group of militants to sneak into the valley from across the border in Uri Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday (November 17), official sources said. The militants were killed in a fierce gunbattle lasting several hours at Bali Behak in Lachipora area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district. The encounter started when the troops intercepted a group of militants attempting to sneak into the valley from across the border. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately. A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, three of whom were believed to be foreigners, sources said. The infiltration bid coincided with the first of the seven-phase elections in the state. Ten constituencies spread over four districts of Poonch, Bandipora, Leh and Kargil went to polls today. |
