Life doesn’t always go the same way,
The old discrimination had its day,
Forget the hegemony you had yesterday,
Our Jammu has come to assert & stay.
Indian media has done a great job in projecting 62 days Jammu agitation and exposing the bankruptcy and hollowness of our political and administrative system. Genuine allotment followed by hasty cancellation of small piece of forest land allotted to SASB under pressure of antinational elements was an unprecedented act in the Indian history which could not have occurred elsewhere in the world. This small administrative action by the so called popular, duly elected and widely represented government led to malicious propaganda projecting it as anti people government imposing cultural invasion, demographic changes& Palestine type settlements in the valley. The real test of a man comes when he is faced with a challenge. Chief Minister considered to be a seasoned politician failed himself, the nation and secularism by buckling under pressure. What happened after that is a history. The world told us that we reaped what we sowed. How can he be entrusted with any such responsibility in future. Mass protests with pro Pak / pro Azadi slogans & revival of secessionism in the valley, fall of the govt, decimation of main stream political parties, forced LOC crossing is what was offered to Delhi. Spontaneous and equally violent reactions in Jammu region during the prolonged agitation causing unimaginable loss of life, property, business, happiness and above all dent to the communal harmony is what we got from our democracy. World told us that this is the net gain of your valley appeasement - neglect of Jammu policy. After grinding the public under the wheels of tyranny for 62 days, the Congress led govt at Delhi restored the said land to SASB. Thereafter not loosing a moment the local leaders claimed it to be their and their alone victory and merciful gift to the public by arrogantly projecting themselves to be only gods in the devils world. Not only that they also tell public that what Bholenath cant do, they can and what god cant give they can therefore to beg them in future and not the others. When in extreme distress, despair and difficulty, this is what the public gets from its duly elected leaders. World tells us again that we got what we deserved and also tells that if we don’t dump such politicians we should be prepared for the worst. This was 1st time ever the people of Jammu fought peacefully for their religious faith during the agitation. Earlier the Dogras fought with the Swords and Guns against the treachery. This time men, women and youths fought with national flags in hands and Bum Bum Bhole as the war cry. The world watched with interest the agitation and its non violent, secular and nationalist mode of conduct. Spontaneous involvement of all ethnic communities including Buddhists in agitation was appreciated world over. End result of agitation is by no means a small achievement because it redefined the Democracy as the Govt of the assertive people by the assertive people and for the assertive people. If Ibrahim Lincoln was alive Jammu would have been his destination. Jammu’s new definition means good governance where no dead body, be it a martyr or militant will be desecrated like that of Sh. Kuldip Verma. Where no one is discriminated/deprived and humiliated because he / she is rich / poor or from so and so place / community. Where every person will feel secure and respected. Where files will move in the offices without bribing and doing Ji Hazoori. Where Jammu gets more than 50 seats in the Assembly, 8 to 10 more new Districts, jobs & pay parity with valley employees particularly in the Secretariat and fair distribution of academic admissions. Deny it in future, if you can, at your peril is an unambiguous message. Today Jammu stands tall against hegemony & discrimination. Jammu responded in one voice to the anti Hindu tirade of Kashmiri leaders who spit venom in Parliament amidst thumping of desks by the UPA Chairperson and her Congress cronies. Statements in the Parliament were a challenge to Indian Statehood as a result whole world opened its eyes to the scene. Luckily and rightly the nation stood with Jammu and now waits its performance in the election. Jammu, the seat of power and the land of Rajas, Generals, warrior soldiers and hardy farmers is different from the valley which the Britishers sold to Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1846 for Rs 75 Lac. No ethnic migration or flooding took place during the Dogra rule. Regional equality and communal harmony was maintained till the change over from autocratic ruler to a democratic despot. Independence sowed the seeds of harassment of Hindus and discrimination continued till the allotment of 100 Acre land to SASB. Creation of bogey of economic blockade made world conscious of the happenings & the consequences. Today Congress promises Regional Council to Jammu and NC speaks of devolution of power. This shift in their stance is a major gain. Forthcoming election is going to be the deciding factor as the people will assert to vote one way because they under the world scan. |
