| Governor reviews Udhampur, Reasi security scenario | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Nov 19: After covering nine of the ten districts of the Kashmir Division, to review the overall security situation for ensuring a secure and stable environment for the peaceful conduct of the ongoing polls, Governor, Mr N N Vohra, today recommenced his district visits in the Jammu region. Mr Vohra has already visited the Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar and Doda districts of the Jammu region to have an on-the-spot appraisal of the security scenario and developmental activities. On the third leg of his district to district tours, Mr Vohra this morning held meetings with the senior officials of the Civil Administration, Police, Central Police and the Army at Udhampur and Reasi district headquarters and reviewed the security arrangements. He particularly discussed the arrangements in regard to transport, lodging, food supplies, communication, medicare and other services for the Security Forces and all other functionaries detailed for the smooth conduct of the elections. The Governor re-iterated the vital importance of maintaining very close and effective coordination between the District, Police, Central Police Forces units deployed in the districts and the Army Formations in the area for ensuring a peaceful environment and prevention of any militant activities in the disturbed areas of the two districts. He also stressed the usefulness of all outside Forces, which would be moving into the districts for carrying out Election related duties to be suitably briefed about the area in which they were being deployed. The Governor also briefly reviewed the overall situation in the Udhampur and Reasi districts and emphasized on the District Development Commissioners to ensure the maintenance of the supply line and other essential commodities in the remote areas. He exhorted them to direct all their officers to visit the village areas for monitoring the pace of various developmental works and mitigating the problems of the people. Vohra was accompanied by Dr Sudhir S Bloeria, Advisor (Home and Security) and Principal Secretary Mr B B Vyas, during his tour to the two districts. Meanwhile, the districts of Udhampur and Reasi are witnessing unprecedented enthusiasm, with the contestants stepping up electioneering in the plains and hilly areas. Upbeat over the peaceful conduct of the polls in Phase I, the political parties are organizing large rallies and conducting door to door canvassing. The six constituencies of the two districts, Udhampur and Reasi, are going to vote in Phase IV, on December 7, 2008. District Election Officer, Udhampur Mr Ajay Khajuria said that 385 polling stations, including 35 auxiliary polling stations, would be set up in the three constituencies of Uhdampur, Chenani and Ramnagar. For manning the polling booths, 1,852 polling staff has been imparted training. Khajuria said that the district has an electorate of 2,81,452, including 1,33,376 female voters. Sanjeev Verma, District Election Officer, Reasi, reported that 2,08,462 electors, including 99,699 female voters, have the right to franchise in Gulabgarh, Reasi and Gool-Arnas constituencies of the Reasi district. For facilitating them to vote, 363 polling stations would be set up across the district. For the facility of the media and information of the general public, separate Election and Media Control Rooms have been established in the two districts. |
