In Metrolite project, Kashmir gets whooping Rs 1600 crores more than Jammu
Discrimination again!

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 2: Once again a ruthless discrimination is coming to fore as Jammu- the winter capital of the erstwhile state has been accorded Rs 1620 crores less than Kashmir valley for Metrolite project in spite of the fact that Jammu’s area is more than 10 thousand sq kms more the valley.
As per the reports received by Early Times newspaper, the elevated metrolite has been proposed for Srinagar (25 km; Rs 5733 crore) and Jammu (23 km; Rs 4113 crore) to facilitate easy and quick movement of people in both the capitals.
Inputs by news agencies inform that in 2021, the Jammu & Kashmir government had submitted the revised detailed project report (DPR) of metrolite rail for Srinagar and Jammu cities to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) for the approval and funding purposes. The revised DPR was prepared after the Centre asked the J&K government to rework on the project and suggested some inputs which were to be incorporated in it.
In the last week of August 2021, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had said that the J&K administration was awaiting the union cabinet’s nod for the project. “We have submitted the proposal for the metro rail, and the Housing and Urban Development Ministry has circulated the cabinet note in this regard,” he had said.
The light rail transit system in Jammu will have its one corridor from Bantalab to Bari Brahmana with an entire length of 23 kilometres whereas in Srinagar it will have two corridors, the first one is from Indira Nagar to HMT Junction and the second is from Usmanabad to Hazuri Bagh, with an entire length of 25 kilometres.
Now when a whooping amount of Rs 1620 crores has been snatched from the Jammu region, the question pertaining to the discrimination with the region is widely coming to the fore. Not only in the Metrolite project, there are no less than 108 villages in Jammu and Kashmir that have not seen electricity till date.
There are 62 villages of Jammu un-electrified, in Kashmir valley the number of such villages is mere 27. The records falsify claims of many about Jammu getting a lion's share in development than Kashmir.Records reveal that under IPDS, Rs 202.27 crore would be utilized for upgrading of power infrastructure in Jammu region, while as Rs 222.22 crore in Kashmir region.
The scheme aims at underground cabling of power lines, cutting line losses and many other things.
