| No office work today | | Five lakh employees on one-day strike | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 19: When over five lakh government employees boycott their routine works for symbolic one-day strike tomorrow to press for their demands, it reminds of the previous two occasions when employees had to lock horns with the government for similar reasons and the matters could be resolved only after prolonged strikes. The employees are demanding implementation of the recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission and enhancement of retirement age from existing 58 years to 60 years. Earlier, the employees in Jammu and Kashmir had to go on 10-day strike on the eve of Fifth Pay Commission and a prolonged 41-day strike on eve of the report of Fourth Pay Commission. Almost all government employees including officers from the Kashmir Administrative Services will be observing a one-day token strike tomorrow to press for their demands which the government is finding difficult to address due to Model Code of Conduct. A meeting between government and employees was held here this evening but the matter could not be resolved as unions of employees were adamant on their demands and government showed the compulsion of Model Code of Conduct. Five lakh employees of jammu and Kashmir state include senior level officers gazetted and non-gazetted employees in order to remind the government for implementation of sixth pay commission and removal of discrimination between IAS, IFS and IPS and state level services, shall be on one day complete strike tomorrow. The JCC which is combination of all gazetted and non-gazetted associations/ unions of all three regions has exempted hospital emergency units and examinations from strike for convenience of general public and the students. All sections of the society have appealed the government to remove discrimination as a result of which state level officers and employees. The JCC has already met the Governor N.N.Vohra who has accepted that steps will be taken remove this discrimination and IPS as well as state level services have uniform superanuation age limit. The state government has already taken up the matter for implementation of 6th pay commission with the Election Commission of India and its decision lies with the Election Commission. State employees believe Election commission will definitely will clear the proposal and it is right of employees. |
