J&K: Weather likely to improve

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Weather in the union territory is set to improve as Meteorological Department forecast cloudy skies with isolated light rains or snowfall during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, north Kashmir's Kupwara- Machil, Kupwara-Keran and Kupwara-Tangdhar roads remained closed for the second consecutive day on Tuesday following accumulation of snow.
Kupwara-Sadhna Top, Furkian Top and Z-Gali roads also remained closed due to snowfall, officials said and added Bandipora-Gurez road also in north Kashmir were closed due to snowfall.
They said snow clearance operation on these routes could not be taken up due to avalanche warnings being issued by the authorities till February 8.
The Minimum temperature shows a drop as Gulmarg froze at minus 9 degree Celsius on Tuesday against the minus 5.0 degree Celsius recorded the previous night .It also received 3.8 cms of snowfall and 3.8 mm of rainfall till 0830hours on Tuesday.
Srinagar recorded a low of 1.4 degree Celsius which was 1.8 degree above normal during this time of the year. It also received 07mm of rainfall on Tuesday.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir plunged to minus 6.2 degree Celsius against the minus 0.5 degree Celsius recorded a day ago and it also received 0.3cms or snowfall and 2.30mm of rainfall till 0830 hours Tuesday.
Qazigund also in south Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of 0.3 degree Celsius, Kokernag minus 0.5 degree Celsius and Kupwara 1.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
