EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 20: With the commencement of Assembly elections in J&K on November 17, when four districts of the State went to polls including in Bandipora district that set the pace of election in Kashmir Valley, the political parties across the State have marshaled their cadres and functionaries for holding public meetings and door-to-door campaign. As many as 1,369 public meetings have been addressed by various political parties and independent candidates in Jammu & Kashmir during the past one month since the announcement of poll schedule by the Election Commission of India on 19th October, 2008. Of these, 646 were held in Kashmir division and 723 in Jammu division. These include 309 public meetings addressed by NC, 283 by Indian National Congress (INC), 241 by PDP, 108 by BJP, 76 by NPP, 65 by BSP and 38 by PDF. Similarly, CPI(M) addressed seven public meetings, JK Democratic Party 21, NCP 3, ANC 15, Lok Janshakti 20, RJD 2, People's National Front 34, JD(S) 1, SP 27, Samata Party 1, Jammu State Morcha 7, Awami League 5, Socialist Democratic Party 2, People's Revolutionary Movement 2, Bharatiya Bahujan Party J&K 4, Kranti Dal 4, All India Forward Block 3, LUTF 1 and independents 90. Of the total public meetings, 62 were mega rallies. Of these, 20 were organized by NC, 15 by INC, 9 by PDP, 6 by BJP, 5 by independents and one each by BSP, PNF, JSM, NPP, LUTF, LJSP and JKDP. |
