JAMMU, Nov 20: Taking strong exception to the statements of Dr Farooq Abdullah and other National Conference leaders that the assembly elections have nothing to do with the relationship of Kashmir with India but pertain only to good governance, the former union minister and senior BJP leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has asserted that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and the elections are held as per the provisions of the Constitution. It was strange that instead of making actual position clear to every body, the leadership of the National Conference and some others were trying to create confusion about the factual position and thus encouraging separatist tendencies, he remarked. Addressing meeting of the party activists at Krishana Nagar in the Jammu West Assembly constituency here today, Prof. Gupta said that legally and constitutionally Jammu Kashmir is an integral part India but it was unfortunate that the Congress and some other elements, having communal mindset, always tried to appease the separatism and militancy instead of making it clear to all such people that there was no scope of secessionism as this amounted to challenging the constitution of the country which is treason. |
