| Women rugby team leaves for nationals | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 19: State women's rugby team is rearing to tackle with Indian women in the first ever three-day seven-a-side National Rugby Women's Championship organized by Indian Rugby Football Association (IRFU) at Pune from tomorrow. The 10-member state team left for the venue yesterday evening to compete in a competition wherein eight states are expected to take part. It will be out of this national championship that the IRFU will select the Indian team for an international event to be held in Hong Kong. The state team is well prepared and the Association is expecting some good results this time. “The girls have worked very hard during the special camps held this season. The team is confident and excited too to compete at the national level,” said an official of the Association. "We have played touch rugby many times. But, it will be for the first time that we play in the tackle rugby championship. In this event, we have to tackle with the opponents and snatch the ball. This is going to be a new experience for most of the team members,’ one of the player, Khairun Nissa told SAN. Established in 2002, State's Rugby Association has been organizing a lot of activities in valley to promote the game. The association has also introduced snow rugby by holding a state level Snow Rugby Championship at Gulmarg besides participating in a national level Snow Rugby competition.
