| European Union delegation calls on CM | | | Srinagar, September 14 – A delegation of European Union comprising Ambassador of Finland in New Delhi Mr. Asko Numminen, Ambassador European Commission Mr. Francisco Da Camara Gomes, Second Secretary Embassy of Finland Ms Anna Kaisa Heikkinen, First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission Embassy of Portugal Mr. Luis Manuel Boralho Sequeira and a representative from Germen Embassy in India called on Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi last evening and discussed various issues pertaining to the development and security scenario in the state. The delegation appreciated the steps of the government taken to reduce the human rights violations and its positive effect on the ground. The delegation also acknowledged the sense of tolerance exhibited by security forces. Chief Minister while interacting with the delegation said that both central and state governments have initiated various measures for strengthening peace in the state. He said that only last year on 7th April, UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh personally came to Srinagar and flagged off Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service. Similarly, bus service on Poonch-Rawalakot road was started from 20th June this year. In order to make Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route more feasible and effective, steps are being taken to convert this route as trade route across LoC. He hoped that once trade will be started through this route, it will not prove beneficial only for people across the borders but also strengthen the economy of our country as well as Pakistan. Mr. Azad also said that we have always propagated that no problem can be solved through violence but dialogue is the only route which will lead the state towards everlasting peace. He said that seriousness of the centre particularly Prime Minister of India in this direction is evident by convening series of roundtable conferences and constitution of five working groups on the concluding day of second roundtable conference in Srinagar. He said all the five working groups have started working and important political parties and representatives of people of Jammu and Kashmir state have joined these working groups. He hoped that all the groups will submit their reports within stipulated period of six months. He said these measures are clear proof of sincere intentions being taken for restoration of peace not only in the state but in the entire sub-continent. |
