| Vice President awards Kashmir craftsmen | | Kashmiri Handicrafts represent cultural ethos, rich civilization | | Srinagar, September 14 – Vice President of India Mr. Bhairo Singh Shekhawat in an impressive ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi presented master craftsmanship awards titled ‘Shilp Guru Award’ to three eminent craftsmen of Kashmir. The awards conferred by Union Ministry of Textile to Mr. Ali Mohammad Baigh in Sozini Craft, Mr. Khalil Kalwal in wood carving and Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Qazi of Khawaja Bazar in carpet weaving, are regarded highest awards in crafts. The award carries one mounted board coin, one shawl and a Citation with a financial assistance of Rs. 7.50 lakhs. This is for the first time craftsmen of Kashmir have received such high awards in craftsmanship in India. J & K Resident Commissioner, Delhi, Mr. S.V. Bhave and Director Handicrafts, Mr. R.A. Qadri represented the state at the award giving ceremony. |
