| Utilization of solar energy viable means to illuminate hilly backward areas; Peerzada | | | Srinagar, September 14 – About 50 un-electrified remote villages of district Kupwara and Doda were covered under Remote Village Electrific (RVE) programme which envisages providing of electric facilities through installation of Solar home lighting system. This information was given to Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Information technology and Haj and Auqaf Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed in a high level meeting convened to review the working of the science technology and Information Technology here today. The meeting was informed that 24 villages of Kupwara which include Manigah, Keran, Machil blocks and 26 villages of Paddar, Marwah and Wrwam blocks of district Doda are being electrified under this programme. The target fixed under first phase of the programme for distribution of 3806 solar home lighting (SHL) systems has been achieved for the two districts. Out of which 3806 SHL 1706 have been installed in Doda district and 2100 in Kupwara district. During current year about 8000 solar lantern under RVE programme, 1000 solar Home Lighting System and 50 of Solar Street Light would also installed in different areas of the state. Under Renewable Energy Parks (REPs) programme, 7 renewable Energy Parks have been set up in different education institutions of the state for creating awareness amongst the public and students community about the use and benefits of renewable energy system and devices. Similarly under the Prime Ministers Reconstruction Plan 435 numbers (3-5 KW capacity units) of micro hydel projects were sanctioned. Out of which, 52 stand installed till date in the state through Army. An amount of Rs 8.70 crore have already been placed at the disposal of Army for implementation of the said scheme. On the occasion, Peerzada directed the officers to launch a vigorous awareness drive among the people about the benefits of these schemes and programmes of the two important departments. He said in the present age these are instrumental departments for releasing the dream of Kushhal J&K. Peerzada said that ‘we have to dedicate ourselves for the welfare of the state to getting benefits from the modern technology which have conveyed the whole world into global village’. He asked the commissioner/Secretary, Information Technology to make the proposal for the expansion of the department so that its benefits could reach in every part of the state. He also directed them to make project formulation cell, which will monitor and also get approval of projects from Government of India for central funding. He said these two departments have a wider scope in J&K. |
