Govt High School Lam victim of official apathy, awaits upgradation
2/21/2022 11:51:29 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 21: The residents of Lam village and adjacent localities in Nowshera tehsil of Rajouri district have demanded from the government to upgrade the only High School in the area to Higher Secondary level. Government High School (GHS), Lam was established in 1982, however, even after four decades it has not been upgraded to the Higher Secondary level.
Inhabitants of the area said that forty year old Government High School, Lam has not been upgraded to Higher Secondary level by the Department of School Education in spite of repeated requests.
Locals of the area said that the government should consider the demand to upgrade the school so that the children of the area get Higher Secondary level education at their doorsteps rather than dropping out after matriculation since a large number of students did not pursue higher education at far off places.
The students, especially girls, in the area say goodbye to education after matriculation, they added.
Villagers said that after completing their tenth class the local students have to seek education for 11th and 12th class after covering long distances thus wasting their time and money.
The villagers said that most of the residents of the area were poor and couldn’t afford to send their wards to other areas for pursuing higher education.
They also complained against the step motherly attitude of the elected representatives of the area as they failed to get the school upgraded despite giving them several representations in this regard.
The locals said that no nation could make progress without imparting education to its younger generation, especially girls.
The government should upgrade the lone High School in Lam to Higher Secondary level without any further delay, they demanded.
