| Himachal beats J&K by 6 wkts in women cricket | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 21: Himachal Pradesh women trounced hosts Jammu and Kashmir by six wickets in the opening match of the four-match North Zone senior women’s inter-state limited overs cricket tournament played today at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here.
Despite a competitive total raised by J&K, the bowlers failed to defend the score and allowed the visitors to attain their goal of 144 runs in 43.5 overs of the 50 overs game.
Earlier, batting first, after Himachal won the toss and opted to field, J&K made 143 runs for the loss of nine wickets playing full 50 overs. Wicket-keeper batsman, Kounser Ali and Shivanti Gupta played brilliantly, contributing 28 runs each. Both these batswomen, who had a valuable partnership of 58 runs for second wicket, were caught by Nayan Katoch off medium pacer, Neena Choudhary.
Skipper, Roopali Slathia and Meenu Slathia made valuable contributions of 16 and 21 runs respectively. However, failure of other batswomen to play some good knocks restricted J&K total to below three-run per over.
From Himachal Pradesh, pacers, Neena Choudhary and Pooja Sharma were most successful bowlers with four wickets each while Nayan and Tanu shared a piece each.
Later, Himachal chased the total for the loss of four wickets sparing 6.1 overs of their innings. All-rounder, Pooja Sharma, who opened the Himachal innings, stood like a rock playing an unbeaten innings of 42 runs including three boundries. She got good support from Anku Singh (33) on way to the target.
Ankita Jalla was most economical bowler from J&K, who took one wicket giving away 24 runs in nine overs. Muzmil Mushtaq and Neeru Manhas were other wicket takers.
