Kashmir valley receives fresh snowfall

SRINAGAR, Feb 26: Kashmir valley including the upper reaches received fresh snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains triggering cold conditions all across on Saturday and disrupting normal life.
A Meteorological Department has forecasted scattered to fairly widespread light rain and snow, mainly dry weather over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir, Dooru, Kapran received 3-4 inches of fresh snowfall. The upper reaches of Shangus also in south Kashmir experienced about 5 inch of fresh snowfall during the intervening night of February 25-16.
Snow clearance machines have been pressed into service to clear the accumulated now from the roads, officials said.
A report from frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara said that 8-10 inches of snow has accumulated in the upper reaches of Vilgam and Taharathpora villages resulted in closure of several routes. The snow clearance operation has been started in these areas.
Ski resort of Gulmarg also experienced a fresh snowfall of 15cms overnight much to the delight to the tourists staying there. The minimum temperature was recorded a low of -7.5 degree Celsius which was minus 1.7 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season at the ski resort.
Srinagar and its adjoining areas were lashed by rains disrupting normal life and intensifying cold conditions across the valley.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded a low of 1.8 degree Celsius. It also received 4.6mm of rainfall till 0830hours Saturday.
Qazigun in south Kashmir has a low of minus 0.2 degree Celsius and it also received 28.2 mm of rainfall and 6.5 cms of snowfall till 0830hours Saturday.
Pahalgam has a low of minus 2.5 degree Celsius and it also received 25.8mm of rainfall and 16.0 cms of snowfall till 0830hours Saturday, while Kokernag was recorded a low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius and it also received 11.3mm of rainfall and 4.0 cms of snowfall till 0830hours Saturday.
Kupwara in north Kashmir has a low temperature of 0.2 degree Celsius and it also received 10.0mm of rainfall and 2.0 cms of snowfall till 0830hours Saturday.
