Azad deceived his own party
11/22/2008 12:05:53 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 21
“I had a vision and dream for Jammu and Kashmir which was on path of realization but when Ghulam Nabi Azad took over he washed away what all I had built over three years”, said PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed while addressing a public meeting in Koteranka. Azad has not only betrayed his coalition partner but also deceived his own party as he was more concerned about implementing his personal agenda rather than executing policies of the Congress Party, said Mufti and added, "when Ghulam Nabi Azad became Chief Minister of the coalition regime in November 2005, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi wrote him a letter in which she had directed Azad to follow policies and programmes of his predecessor", Sayed disclosed but hastened to add that instead of following directions of his own party, Ghulam Nabi Azad had started implementing his own agenda.
"Instead of implementing the pro-people policies, incorporated in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of the coalition, Azad was more particular about imposing his personal agenda", Sayed regretted, adding, "on the very first day after becoming Chief Minister of the State, Azad tried to create wedge between Congress and PDP to fulfill hidden agenda of National Conference". He said that it was all due to the negative approach of Azad that situation took an ugly turn and the State witnessed communal polarization after Amarnath land controversy.
"As a Chief Minister I had rejected the proposal of land but Azad had got the proposal passed in the Cabinet without consulting me", Sayed pointed out and added that Azad took that decision on the guidance of National Conference as since 2002 he was hob-nobbing with that party. "Had Azad consulted me before taking this decision, situation would not have taken such an ugly turn", Sayed observed, adding, "PDP was demanding withdrawal of the order of the transferring land but Azad did not give any heed to the suggestions of his coalition partner and rather took decision on the promise of opposition NC ". He further disclosed that NC had promised Azad of support in the assembly after the land transfer controversy but it was all due to the massive public protest that NC could not dare to support him during vote of confidence.
