Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 26:- Stating that real tribute to Sher-I-Duggar, Lala Hans Raj Mahajan would be to dedicate a road or a bridge or any other landmark to his name, Apsara Road Traders’ Association (ARTA) General Secretary, Rajan Gupta today sought initiative by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to keep the name of the Dogra doyen alive for generations.
He was speaking at a function held by the association to pay homage to the Sher-I-Duggar on his death anniversary today. The event began with garlanding of the portrait of Lala Hans Raj Mahajan, who was also the founder of the Mahajan Sabha Jammu, Dogra Sadar Sabha and Akhil Bhartia Mahajan Shiromani Sabha.
Speaking on the occasion, ARTA General Secretary, Rajan Gupta termed Lalaji as a great social reformer of his time and a catalyst for social change who launched a crusade against social evils like child marriage and Sati. “He also launched a movement for wearing Khadi, promoting brotherhood among various communities and for widow remarriage,” Rajan Gupta further said and added that Lala Hans Raj also advised the people to avoid extravagant and showy expenditure on social functions.
Rajan Gupta also said that a pioneer in the field of social reforms, Lala Ji was an institution within himself. For him social service was parmodharma. He was held in very high esteem and reverence by all sections of the society. He was a true karamyogi who lived his life according to the highest moral values. Also speaking on the occasion, ARTA President Anil Kohli said, “He was a man of principles and was instrumental in setting up Ved Mandir Ashram, Rajput Sabha etc. Throughout his life Lalaji worked for the welfare of all communities irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and region. Among others, Chairman of the association Ashu Gupta and convener Amit Jandyal were also present besides Pawan Gupta, Ashwani Sharma, Ashutosh Gupta, Manoj Magotra and Rakesh Gupta.
