EARLY TIMES REPORT0
SRINAGAR, Nov 22: Reiterating the call for 'Ganderbal Challo,' Coordination Committee, spearheading the present movement in valley, Saturday termed the elections in the first phase as 'farce.' "First the turnout was said to be 42 percent and later 55%, 64% and
now they are saying it to be 69 percent which itself speaks about the partiality of the elections which are were held in presence of
thousands of troopers," Mian Qayoom, senior leader of the Coordination Committee and president of Kashmir High court Bar Association told reporters here at sadder court premises.
He alleged that 20 to 30 lakh rupees have been provided to candidates for ensuing elections who he said spend on people besides the
"coercion" by troops to vote. "How is it possible that 25 to 30 lakh people who poured on the streets in favour of right to self determination get ready to vote? These elections are nothing but the farce,' qayoom who was flanked by showkat Ahmad Bakshi, former KBA president Nasir Ronga.
"Our appeal to the world is to keep ethnic reality of Kashmir in mind and not get deviated by election drama in Kashmir. Reiterating the already announced programme of Ganderbal 'challo' Qayoom said that people will try to reach Ganderbal and Kangan despite the curfew to acquaint the population about the "hidden agenda of India behind these elections."
The Coordination Committee also condemned the killing of two youth allegedly by police and CRPF firing in Baramulla, saying the troops in Kashmir enjoy impunity.
"They kill anybody or destroy anything on their own for they know they are exempt from punishment, penalty, or harm."
Qayoom also condemned the gag on media and said that the claims of largest democracy by India fall flat in view of the events in Kashmir. 'Local channel including Sen, 9 Channel, Take-1 and others channels have been restricted while Indian (national) channels have been barred from these restrictions. Similar is the case with local print media who have been threatened of disentitlement from the advertisement."
