| Our policies brought change: Mufti | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 22: Acknowledging the huge turnout in the first phase of polling in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today strives to take its credit by describing it as the result of pro-people and reconciliatory policies adopted by the PDP led coalition regime. The party Patron and former chief minister Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayed remarks that "After 2002 elections PDP coalition government revived peoples faith in the democratic institutions through its policies and programmes", and the result is seen in the overwhelming response of people towards the voting. He was addressing impressive public meetings at Mahore and Arnas towns in support of party candidates Mumtaz Kousar and Shamshad Shan. Mufti said that it was after formation the coalition regime in 2002, first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, the State Government took the centre stage in the process of solving the problem facilitating the peace initiatives and convinced both India and Pakistan to take some concrete steps for bringing normalcy in this region. During the PDP led regime people realized that they were the stakeholders in the solution of Kashmir problem and the representatives elected by them have to play a vital role in the solution of the problem, he asserted, adding, "in its short tenure of three years PDP regime carved out a new path of development and peace in this region". Sayed claimed that there was a strong wave in favour of PDP in whole State in general and Kashmir Valley in particular. He said that high turn out clearly indicate that people have made up their mind to bring back PDP led regime in the State. The former Chief Minister reminded the people that it was during his regime a number of developmental schemes were implemented in Mahore area. However on the same maintained that Mahore is still lacks basic amenities and there is need of a comprehensive developmental plan exclusively for this area and assured that people that PDP, if voted to power, would fulfill long pending demand of opening degree college at Mahore. Panthers Party leader who was contesting as independent candidate retired in favour of PDP candidate Mumtaz Kousar and joined PDP. Another PDP leader Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Malik and retired Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hamid also joined the PDP. |
