| 5 women contestants in fray in Phase 3 of JK polls | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, NOV 22: There are five women contestants out of 71 in fray in Kupwara district, which is going to polls in the third phase of J&K Assembly Elections 2008. Polling in five constituencies of Karnah, Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara and Langate will take place on November 30. Among them, two women will contest from Karnah, 1 from Kupwara and another two from Handwara. No woman is contesting from Lolab and Langate constituencies. While 3 women contested in the first phase of J&K Assembly elections on November 17, another 2 women are in fray in the second phase of elections for which polls will be held tomorrow. In Karnah Assembly constituency, Smt. Taja Parveen will contest as a PDF (S) candidate while as Smt. Saiyda Begum is contesting on a BSP ticket. Similarly, in Handwara constituency, Smt. Hanifa Begum will contest as a BSP candidate while as Smt. Shafiqa Begum will fight elections on J&KNPP ticket. The only woman contestant from Kupwara constituency is Shabnam Gani Lone, who is contesting as an independent candidate. |
