| Raina ‘crusader of Kashmiris’ to contest elections from Anantnag | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 22: Claiming himself the ‘crusader of justice for Kashmiris’, Roop Krishan Raina, an eminent lawyer and social worker, has decided to contest election from Anantnag constituency in South Kashmir, as an independent candidate. While releasing his election manifesto at a press conference today, Raina said ‘I am contesting against the divisive forces that have been thriving on fostering a pathological obsession among people about freedom which they have failed to either explain or deliver. ‘Their main aim is on spilling innocent blood by blowing trivial issues rather than focusing on actual developments’, Raina alleged. Referring to his decision to contest elections from Anantnag as an independent candidate, he said his dissatisfaction and anger against the wily politicians exposed after the recent agitation gave him will power to stand for the cause of peace and prosperity in Anantnag in particular and Jammu and Kashmir as a whole.
Raina promised to fight for the better life of Kashmiri migrants and for their status as ‘internally displaced people’, besides working for the protection of temples and shrines in the valley. Expressing his desire to see Anantnag as a role model for the rest of the state and for the whole country, he said ‘I am son of a teacher who taught the Muslims, the Pandits and the Sikhs alike’ adding that ‘I want to revive the Kashmiriyat by bringing back the legacy of seers and saints which has been diminished from the minds of the people due to the gun. Raina said that the people of the state have seen enough with so many youngsters gone astray and pitiable social, political and economic conditions, we can not afford to look back or walk alone. He made a passionate appeal to judiciary, bureaucracy, media and all the citizens of the state to contribute selflessly towards a bright tomorrow. Raina also set up his election office at Anantnag which was inaugurated by Makhan Lal Kundru, a prominent and social figure of the district. |
