GDC Chenani organizes two day NSS camp

JAMMU, Mar 4: Government Degree College (GDC) Chenani under the auspices of its NSS unit Prayatna and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav organised a two day NSS camp in the adopted village Champeri and its nearby small villages in Tehsil, Chenani under the theme "Health and Hygiene Awareness".
The programme began at Government Primary School, Kurd wherein the NSS volunteers interacted with the students and faculty members of the school and laid emphasis on the importance of maintaining personal health and hygiene.
The students also held a cleanliness drive at selected locations in the villages and interacted with the local population pertaining to the theme.
On day 2, the NSS volunteers visited the Government High School, Champeri and delivered lectures to the school students and briefed them on the concept of balanced diet and physical exercise which is directly proportionate to the good health and psychological well-being. The teaching staff of the school also participated keenly and raised questions on how to educate the students towards healthy life styles. The campaign was organized by Prof. Sunil Kumar and Dr. Mudasir Abdullah.
Principal of the college, Dr. Pragya Khanna exhorted that the purpose of the camp was to enable the students to understand the community in which they live and work and to understand themselves in relation to their community and to identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
Dr. Khanna emphasized that the aim of adoption of village or area is to give new ideas of development to the villagers which would improve their living conditions. The college has adopted five villages around its vicinity and the NSS volunteers make regular visits to these areas for the benefit of the community.
