| State to host prestigious Sanotsh trophy football tournament | | Azad reviews arrangements at high level meeting | | Srinagar, July 10 – Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has got yet another shot in the arm as the prestigious Santosh Trophy Football tournament has been allotted to Jammu and Kashmir state this year for the second time since last about 28 years. The 3-week long mega event will be held from September 2, 2006 in Srinagar. Chief Minister today discussed at a high level meeting the arrangements about the successful conduct of the mega event, for which all states are keen to get the opportunity for being host of the prestigious tournament. As many as 37 top football teams of the country would participate in this national level event. It is for the second time that this mega football championship is being organized in the state. Earlier, Santosh Football Trophy event was held here in 1978. It was stated at the meeting that the matches would be held at Bakshi Stadium, Polo Ground and Amar Singh College Ground. Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities for executing work of developing playfields and other logistics at the venues of the matches in double-shift so that these are ready well in advance for organizing the national level football championship in a befitting manner. Minister for Youth Services and Sports Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Anil Goswami, Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Shailendra Kumar, Secretary State Sports Council Mr. Ravinder Gupta, President Jammu and Kashmir Football Association Mr. Z. A. Thakur, Vice President Mr. Siraj-ud-Din and its Organizing Secretary Mr. S. A. Hamid were among those who participated in the meeting. |
