11/24/2008 12:22:03 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
DODA, Nov 23: Former Chief Minister and patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayed today said that solution of the Kashmir problem is must to remove the mistrust among different regions of the State. He said that his party has workable proposal for the resolution of this vexed problem.
Kicking off election campaign for party candidates in this mountainous belt, Mufti Mohammed Sayed asserted that PDP, if voted to power, would solve this problem within six years through Self-Rule proposal which is formulated to address both internal and external dimension of this problem.
Elaborating the Self-Rule document, which he has already handed over to Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, Mufti said that PDP's proposal is acceptable and viable solution to this problem. He said that on the one hand PDP has prepared a workable Self-Rule document for resolution of the problem while on the other hand the party has formulated comprehensive policies for overall development of the State.
Demanding implementation of the recommendations of the Working Group headed by former RBI Governor C Rangarajan, Mufti regretted that Rangarajan, who headed the Working Group on Economic Reconstruction, has recommended that NHPC project namely Dulhasti and Salal hydro electric projects should be handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Government but Centre has yet not taken any decision on these recommendations. "For making Jammu and Kashmir an economic viable State it is necessary to implement recommendations of the C. Rangarajan ", he said and regretted that despite having huge water resources Jammu and Kashmir has to depend upon Government of India for economic development.
Highlighting achievements of three year tenure of his government, he said that PDP led coalition laid a solid foundation of mutual trust and confidence among different regions of the State. He said that this regime has carved out a new path of peace and tranquility in this region and the biggest achievements of coalition regime is that it has created atmosphere for initiating peace process and taking Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to normalize relations between India and Pakistan.
