| Divakar urges for shifting of Purmandal cremation ground | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | SEPT 14 President, Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust, Th. Divakar Singh urged the state government authorities to immediately issue orders and implement the same strictly regarding shifting of cremation ground facing the ancient lord Shiva temple at Purmandal. In a press statement issued here today, Th. Divakar Singh said that performing final rites on beds of the holy river Devika is as good as is on the banks of river Ganga for seeking salvation Purmandal is a holy pilgrimage of the Jammu region and several lakh of people from all parts of the northern India including parts of the Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh and Rajasthan visit here to have the holy dip in the sacred underground flowing waters of the river Devika every year, he added. Th. Divakar Singh further told that peak rush of the devotees is witnessed on Somavati – amavasiya, Raksha-bandan day, Pitri-amavasiya, Chaiter-choudash and sacred Navratras. On these days special buses are plied and arrangements of drinking water, traffic, electricity, security, Police bandobast, etc are made by the district administration. Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust also makes elaborate arrangements of board and lodging facilities for pilgrims besides raising temporary sanan-ghats and toilets for ladies.
