| Farooq promises reforms in education | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 24: Patron National Conference and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Farooq Abdullah has promised that if his party is voted to power will reform education system which will pave a way to eradicate menace of unemployment in the state. Addressing series of meetings in Doda, Basholi and Billawar here today, Dr. Abdullah said that National Conference if voted to power will lay great emphasis on vocational oriented education so as to empower the youth to get sustainable employment. Time, he said, has come when government should throttle with reforms in the education sector. "We are laying special focous on the employment oriented education system, which will boost the economy of the state and help in eradicating the unemployment menace", he said adding that reforms were necessary to create more number of good educational institutes in the state. "Reforms in education, besides giving more choices to students, will also help improve the working conditions and pay of faculty as more money will flow into this sector", Dr Abdullah said. He added that reforms in education will help our human resource become more employable. "What is needed now is complete Educational Reform", he said adding, "Schools, colleges and other educational institutions must alien themselves with the sole purpose of preparing the youth of today and the youth of the future for success in life". Education Reform, he said, with that purpose will ensure the future of not only for generations to come but for the continuing growth and prosperity of the state. He also promised that the minimum wages will be raised from Rs. 70/- to Rs. 150/- per day for the labourers so as to improve their living condition. Dr. Abdullah also assured that if voted to power his party will provide old age pension to senior citizens in the state on the pattern of European countries and will also enhance the amount of old age and handicapped pension. Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy filed his nomination papers in presence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and MLC Devender Singh Rana. In the meanwhile, Devender Singh Bindu filed his nomination papers from Basholi in presence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, MLC Devender Singh Rana and Muhammad Aslam Goni, Advocate. Romy Khajuria filed his nomination papers from Billawar in presence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, MLC Devender Singh Rana and Muhammad Aslam Goni. Among others who were present at Billawar were Thakur Kashmira Singh, ex-MLC, Gurdeep Singh Sassan and Vijay Lakshmi Dutta. |
