| Valley limps back to normalcy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 24: Valleyites Monday resumed daily chorus after being forced to remain confined to their home Sunday following the informal curfew imposed by authorities in view of Coordination Committee's call for 'Ganderbal challo.' Restricting people to their homes without announcing the curfew was the fifth instance in little more than a month in Srinagar and other major towns of the Valley. "There was no curfew while restrictions under section 144 were imposed in letter and spirit," district magistrate Srinagar Mehrajudin Kakroo said. Shops and other business establishments reopened in Srinagar including busiest Lal Chowk area. Traffic was plying normally and roads were seen crowded with shoppers and bystanders. Reports from other towns barring Baramulla and few places in Pulwama, life resumed to normal after remaining closed for day due to undeclared curfew. Today's picture was complete contrast to that of yesterday. While traffic was plying normally on all routes Monday, there were large number of police and paramilitary troopers donning riot gears, patrolling the deserted roads in Srinagar and towns of other districts Sunday. Coordination Committee, spearheading the present movement in Kashmir had called people to reach Ganderbal, where elections were held Sunday. Barring some sporadic incidents of stone pelting, Ganderbal and Kangan constituencies witness brisk polling in the second phase of seven phased poll calendar for the state. According to officials, the two constituencies accounted for 55 percent of voting. (PBI) |
