| Geelani rejects elections as farce, fraud | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 26:Reiterating his challenge to the state administration to remove its troops to sustain their claims on turnout in polls, chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani Wednesday rejected the elections as "fraud and fraudulent." "Elections are fraud and managed by Indian forces," Syed Ali Shah who remained under house arrest for the second day Wednesday told reporters at a press conference at his residence. "Elections area being held in seven stages only to move troops from one part to another so that areas going for elections are turned into concentration camps," Geelani, who was placed under house arrest soon after his arrival to valley after treatment in New Delhi and Mumbai. "No impartial representative is being allowed to observe the polls to see what is happening in the Kashmir." He alleged that the increased number of contests was a well thought out 'conspiracy' to 'manage' the turnout. "Pro India parties are contesting elections in the state. Tens of thousands are being spent to on the contestants who in turn spend like water to lure electorate. Increased number of contestants enables them to get the more relative, cousins, and second cousins, to vote." Geelani questioned as to how people would vote after the mass uprising in June and August. "India claims to be the biggest democracy in the world but it paid no heed to the aspiration of millions of people which otherwise was obligatory to the claimers of democracy. Lakhs of people who poured on to streets from June 23 to August 24 gave their charge sheet to India." The septuagenarian leader, according to PBI said that instance of listening to the cries of "no election, no selection, we want freedom," elections were announced in the state. "It is nothing but to only to deviate the international community." "Mainstream political leaders, be it Omar Abdullah or Mehbooba Mufti, were saying that the atmosphere was not feasible for the polls. Then they got ready at once which is similar to the episode that once an employee asked his employer that increase his salary. On employer's response as to what will he do if his salary was not hiked, the employee responded: 'nothing I will work on same salary'," Gelaani said. He accused the mainstream politics of being responsible to what he said the present day 'slavery.' Lashing out at National Conference , Geelani who had his pacemaker changed at Escorts Hospital in New Delhi after 11 and half years, said that the party was responsible for "suppression" right from the vary start. "They are those who are responsible for 'fake' accession and there crime is so grave that it can't be pardoned." Geelani didn't spare Peoples Democratic Party or congress either. "PDP's self-rule is nothing to strengthen status-quo. In its Self-rule it claims to be plebiscite as outdated. Right to self determination is our birth right and calling something which is even accepted in UN charter on Kashmir is not acceptable to any Kashmiri." "Congress has been the oppressor for 61 years." Geelani also sought clarification from People Conference for double standards. "Shabnum lone (daughter of late Abdul Gani Lone), Ghulam Muhammad sofi and Abdul Rashid Dar are in fray in Kupwara only on People Conference support. Some persons who are part of coordination Committee are for boycott. Unless we resolve these things, we will remain week," he said. |
