| World Championship: Farooq promises help to Atul | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 26: Already lost his trip to Commonwealth Championship at Canada this month, Atul Pangotra has been assured by the former Chief Minister and Member Parliament, Dr Farooq Abdullah of help for participation in the forthcoming 3rd World Taekwondo (Poomsae) Championship to be held at Ankara in Turkey in December. Atul has been selected for the World Championship on the basis of his gold winning performance in the 3rd Senior National Poomsae Taekwondo Championship held at Bangalore in June last. Atul, who has done international coaching course at Kyunghee University in Korea in October last, do not have enough funds to bear the expenses of such a big event. Looking for sponsors, Atul recently approached Dr Farooq to seek financial aid for sponsoring his participation in the World Championship. Atul was accompanied by senior player and promoter of the game, Ajay Pal Gill. “I have been assured of help by former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah to make my dream come true. I have also prepared my requisition to be submitted with the Secretary J&K State Sports Council for financial aid,” informed Atul. Recently joined the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) as Physical Education Teacher (PET), Atul has also done his Diploma in Taekwondo from Sports Authority of India (SAI) run Netaji Subash National Institute of Sports (NIS) at Bangalore. Atul has to his credit a national referee course besides being an approved judge in Poomsae. He is also an approved coach of the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI). |
