Diksha, Vikram bag titles in District Badminton
Rahul, Avnish wins men’s doubles trophy

JAMMU, Nov 26: Rahul Sharma and Avnish Sharma proved that they are still better in stamina and techniques when the pair defeated the brothers’ duo of Vikram and Vipul Saini in men’s doubles final in the 23rd Jammu District Badminton Championship which came to an end today at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here.
However, it was not an easy going for the seniors. Losing first set 18-21, Vikram and Vipul put in extra efforts in the second but could not equalize the score and lost the set 22-24 and the match also.
In the men’s singles final, Vikram clinched the title beating his young brother Vipul Saini in straight sets 21-16, 21-18. The women’s singles trophy went to Diksha, who trounced Sulakhani 21-11, 21-7 in the final.
Veteran singles title was won by Ramesh Sharma, who got walkover his doubles partner, Rajesh Gupta. However, playing together in doubles, Ramesh and Rajesh ended the dominance of Som Raj Gupta and Balbir Jamwal in the event outplaying the pair 21-15, 21-17.
The junior boys’ singles title was bagged by Aman, who beat D S Shubham 21-19, 14-21, 22-20. In junior boys doubles final, Maninder and Naresh outplayed Abhishek and Anuj 21-16, 24-22.
The pair of Diksha and Akanksha defeated Vandhna and Kanika 21-16, 21-19 in the junior girls doubles final.
To encourage the upcoming shuttlers, the organizers gave away consolation prizes to Akash, Ayush, Akshay, Vishal and Falak.
In the finals and prize distribution function, Secretary State Sports Council and Director General Young Services and Sports, P S Gill was chief guest, who gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up of different age groups.
In his brief address to the participants, Mr Gill complimented the winners and asked those who could not excel to work hard the next time.
President of the Jammu District and City Badminton Association, Inspector General of Police, Dilbag Singh presented vote of thanks.
