SRINAGAR, Nov 26: Bitten by the open public defiance of their poll boycott campaign the separatists now appear falling out with each other leveling serious allegations.
A day after his return to Srinagar, the hardliner separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani accused the Peoples Conference leader Sajjad Ghani Lone of failing the boycott campaign by extending tacit support to three assembly election candidates in Kupwara district including Lone’s sister Shabnam. Hours after Geelani’s press conference, Sajjad Lone came down heavily on him and went on to accuse him of being a party to his father Abdul Ghani Lone’s assassination in 2002.
Sajjad Gani Lone, chairman parallel faction of Peoples Conference Wednesday reacted sharply to the charges leveled by hard-liner Syed Ali Shah Gelani regarding support being provided by Peoples Conference to three proxy candidates in electoral fray in Kupwara. Sajjad said that he was willing to quit politics if the charges leveled were proven to be right.
"This ex MLA (Gelani) who has even sworn on Indian constitution is blaming me for putting proxy candidates. I swear by Holy (Qoran) that I have nothing to do with the three candidates Geelani has spoken about," Sajjad lamented.
Sajjad said that his father Late Abdul Gani lone was assassinated on Gelani's behest and the people of Kupwara will never forgive him for that crime. "Either the ex-MLA who still draws pension will remain in politics or I will remain there," Sajjad roared adding, if charges of filing proxy candidates are proven correct.
A visibly upset Sajjad was all furious over Gelani's remark and said that despite all odds PC kept its promise of poll boycott and carried out its plans in the thick of Military presence.
Geelani had this morning sought clarification from People Conference for ‘double standards’. "Shabnum lone (daughter of late Abdul Gani Lone), Ghulam Muhammad sofi and Abdul Rashid Dar are in fray in Kupwara only on People Conference support. Some persons who are part of coordination Committee are for boycott. Unless we resolve these things, we will remain week," he had said in his press conference this morning.
"Running a boycott call in Kupwara in presence of heavy deployment of army is no less that inviting death but I still took the risk and launched the boycott campaign," Sajjad said, adding, where was Gelani whe poll boycott campaign was launched in Kashmir by the separatist organisations.
"What army or the Government of India couldn't do, Geelani does today."
Sajjad said that he expected applauds from Geelani for running the election boycott and 'braving oppression of forces."
"Instead, he comes and levels allegations against me. Until he is alive, this nation will not get the freedom," s dejected Sajjad said.
Sajjad alleged that Geelani's daughter met Gorge Fernandes and Farooq Abdullah to seek their help in getting her husband released.
"When his kin met these people it is no matter. When somebody who knows us does the same, he blows the matter out of proportions."
Sajjad later put his hand on the holy Qoran to swear that he has no connection with the three candidates that Geelani mentioned to be proxy candidates of Peoples Conference. |
